  • Are you willing to support all prisoners with a non-judgmental heart?

  • Can you use your ministry skills to coordinate religious services and provide pastoral support?

This is an exciting role as you journey with prisoners as they encounter the challenges of prison life and separation from loved ones and whanau, many of whom are eager to understand God’s love for them and develop a faith relationship that can be truly life changing.

Role Priorities

We need someone who has a deep faith, recent pastoral experience and who has some knowledge of te reo and tikanga Māori (or is willing to learn). Significant Christian ministry and pastoral counselling experience are required for the role, as is an appropriate level of mental and physical agility. Because of the nature of the position, you will take a lead in ensuring that the ministry on the site is carried out, and so organisational and administrative skills and the ability to manage yourself is essential.  It is important that you can work constructively as part of the chaplaincy and site management team and that you can be adaptable and flexible in your role.

A formal university level theological qualification would be an advantage, but candidates who have made significant progress towards completing one, or who are prepared to study alongside the role will also be considered. Experience working with mental health issues would also be an advantage.

Good IT aptitude is essential. Office 365 is the key platform and so a level of competency in Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint are important.
