Funding

The Synod offers financial support for the enriching of your church. 

On this webpage you can scroll down and find application forms from three different funding committees. On the forms tell us about your idea/project and it will be considered. 

Applications are warmly received, but some might not be successful.  

Funding committees:

  2. Ecclesiastical
  3. Education

 

 

About each committee:

MISSION & EVANGELISM FUND

This fund supports projects that further and promote the extension of the Kingdom of God within the Synod’s region.

Priority will be given to projects with a clear support base and a focus on a wider community – doing the most good for the most people. E.g. Otago and Southland-wide [Though applications for individual parishes can be accepted]. They're interested in supporting innovative projects with well-researched, clearly defined goals rather than equipment.

Mission & Evangelism Fund applications need to be received by the Synod Executive Officer by October 15, for the following year. For the second round in September, the applications need to be sent in by June 15, of the same year. Successful applicants will be notified after our annual meeting in April.

ECCLESIASTICAL FUND

This is for land purchases, development and building replacement or alteration projects involving Presbyterian Church buildings and manses within the Synod's region. 

Priority will be given to the upgrading or expansion of buildings which are well used, have a thriving community mission focus and have been identified as strategic assets. We also value the upgrade of manses, to ensure a reasonable standard of accommodation for a Minister.

Ecclesiastical Fund applications need to be received by the Synod Executive Officer by October 15. Successful applicants will be notified after our annual meeting in April. 

Note: Routine maintenance and repairs are no longer considered a Synod funding priority

EDUCATION FUND

Here we provide financial support for educational purposes to both religious and secular organisation within the Synod's region.

The fund supports, among other things, the Theology Department of Otago University, the Knox Centre for Ministry and leadership training of leaders in the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. The fund also supports various small community groups and schools.  

Education Fund applications need to be received by the Synod Executive Officer by November 30. Successful applicants will be notified after our annual meeting in April.

Further Information:

Our committees are made up of representatives from each resource group area. Each committee meets together in January/February, with the Mission and Evangelism Committee meeting for a second time in August/September.
